The five P's

Each one, on the board.

The motto is the curriculum. Every lesson comes back to one of these.
  1. 01

    Proper

Do it right, not just fast. The first move decides the shape of the game.

  2. 02

    Planning

See three moves ahead. Then see what your opponent sees.

  3. 03

    Prevents

A good plan closes doors before anyone can walk through them.

  4. 04

    Poor

Nobody loses on move one. They lose on the move they stopped thinking.

  5. 05

    Performance

The board keeps score honestly. So does life.

Where it runs

Schools, parks, and Haiti.

New York City public schools

25+ schools in New York State. Classes in the day, clubs after school, a league with medals. At its height, 40 schools in inner-city neighborhoods.

The parks

Blitz tournaments in NYC parks with ChessNeverCheckers, where anyone can walk up, watch, and sit down.

Haiti

The team has travelled to Haiti to teach young children the game, connecting kids in Brooklyn with kids hundreds of miles away.

“The Imagine That chess program serves six classes one day per week and meets afterschool for all students who wish to learn and practice the game of chess.”
